GUIDE FOR YBA MEMBERS PARTICIPATING IN THE 2026 IFBA WORLD BROOMBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Yukon Broomball Association (YBA) Executive and the 2026 World Broomball Organizing Committee are excited to support YBA members who want to participate in the 2026 World Broomball Championships. As hosts, we see this event as a major opportunity to grow the sport locally, strengthen the league, and bring players together as unified, competitive YBA Worlds teams.
This guide outlines the goals, expectations, and requirements for players and teams interested in representing the YBA at Worlds.
1. Purpose & Vision - Hosting the World Broomball Championships in Whitehorse allows the YBA to:
- Promote broomball in the Yukon
- Attract new players and grow the League
- Build camaraderie among league members
- Field competitive teams made up of YBA players
- Represent the YBA and Yukon in a positive, professional way on the world stage
2. Player Interest & Team Formation
- A sign-up sheet will be posted on the YBA rink corkboard to gauge interest in participating. Other communication may be considered depending on interest.
- Teams will be formed from interested YBA members, with the goal of creating balanced and competitive rosters.
- Teams entered will be recognized as representing the YBA and the 2026 Worlds Host.
To participate on a YBA Worlds team, players must:
- Be a current YBA member
- Commit to team practices, games, and related activities
- Agree to follow all YBA and Worlds guidelines and codes of conduct
- A certified coach is required for teams entering the tournament.
- The coach plays a key leadership role, including:
- Supporting player development and teamwork
- Upholding standards of conduct and sportsmanship
- Acting as a liaison with organizers and officials
- If a sport-specific certified coach is not available, alternate arrangements will be explored.
- The YBA would like to support one or more teams to help ensure they are competitive and well-prepared.
- Details of financial or logistical support will be shared once team interest and structure are confirmed.
Players, coaches, and teams entering the 2026 World Broomball Championships are expected to act as ambassadors of the YBA and the Yukon.
Key expectations include:
- Demonstrating respectful, positive behavior at all times
- Bringing a positive attitude to practices, games, and events
- Treating teammates, coaches, officials, volunteers, and opposing teams with respect
- Using appropriate language and maintaining good sportsmanship

7. Registration Fees & Accommodation Considerations
- Team registration fee:

- $2500 for teams not staying at host hotels
Volunteer Option (Fee Reduction)
- The YBA and Organizing Committee have agreed to waive the additional $1000 (reducing the fee to $1500) if teams agree to provide volunteer support.
- This applies to volunteer work before and during the tournament.
Hosting a tournament of this size requires significant volunteer support.
- Players are encouraged to commit to a minimum of 60 volunteer hours per team
- Volunteer roles may include:
- Event setup and takedown
